Speaker: Dr. Pramod P. Reddy, MD, and Debbie Reeves, BSN, RN, CPN, discuss Cincinnati Children's urology bladder retraining program
One of the questions, um, you know, talking about, um, our colleagues in colorectal surgery do a boot camp, which is how they help children who have fecal incontinence achieve, um, control over their bowels. Uh, it's a week-long course and uh involves testing. You have to come here. There's a lot of lectures on how a child will uh um develop bladder and bowel control, and the question is, can it be done for bladder? And we do have something similar. It's called a bladder retraining program. Um, this actually doesn't need you to be here for the week. It's, uh, something that we educate you about during a visit, and, um, the most important predictor of success is how engaged your child is. If they're bothered by the fact that they don't have bladder control. They're going to be very successful in achieving bladder control, whether it's with behavior modification, medications, or other interventions that we have to do, uh, so it really boils down to how engaged is your child in this process is the biggest predictor of success.
