Abdominal Drainage at Appendectomy for Complicated Appendicitis in Children: A Propensity-matched Comparative Study.

Large propensity-matched study of 1,762 pediatric appendectomies in Japan found that abdominal drain placement for complicated appendicitis increased wound dehiscence and hospital stay without reducing infectious complications. Results suggest routine drainage may be harmful rather than beneficial in this population.
