Predicting the optimal depth of ultrasound-guided right internal jugular vein central venous catheters in neonates
Topic overview
Prospective study of 91 newborns establishes a weight-based formula (Y = 2.6 + 0.7 × weight in kg) to predict optimal insertion depth for ultrasound-guided right internal jugular vein central venous catheters. Weight proved the strongest predictor (R² = 0.723) of correct catheter positioning, offering clinicians a practical tool to reduce malposition complications in neonatal patients.
