Laparotomy complications on extracorporeal life support: Surgical site bleeding does not increase mortality
Topic overview
This ELSO database study of 196 pediatric patients examined laparotomy outcomes during extracorporeal life support, finding that surgical site bleeding did not independently increase mortality risk. Lower gestational age, infectious complications, and nonsurgical hemorrhage were identified as significant mortality predictors in this high-risk population.
