Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) leads to similar results in patients with and without prior endoscopic or surgical therapy

This study demonstrates that peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) achieves comparable clinical outcomes in achalasia patients regardless of prior treatment history. Patients with previous endoscopic or surgical interventions showed similar operative times, GERD symptom scores, and quality of life measures to treatment-naïve patients, supporting POEM as an effective option for both primary and salvage therapy.
