Transanal proximal rectosigmoidectomy. A new operation for severe chronic idiopathic constipation associated with megarectosigmoid

This retrospective study describes a novel transanal surgical technique for severe pediatric chronic constipation with megarectosigmoid that preserves a 5 cm rectal reservoir. All 13 patients achieved daily voluntary bowel movements with significantly reduced laxative requirements and no fecal incontinence at 6-16 month follow-up.
