Good morning, good afternoon, good evening. Welcome to Comparative Technology and telementoring. We have a, uh, couple hours here where we're gonna hit on this new hot topic of telementoring, the idea that one expert surgeon can beam into another surgeon's room and help guide them through an operation. There's a lot of debate about, uh, many aspects of what tele mentoring will be, uh, whether or not, uh, it's gonna be used in as an emergency situation or whether it's part of education, uh, but one of the things that we really need to talk about is the technology and that's what we're gonna focus on today and hopefully we'll have a series of these where we hit on some of the other topics, uh, before we introduce the faculty and we really have a a steam faculty today who are all the experts in tele mentoring. Uh, we first want to, uh, thank, uh, Carl Stuart's Endoscopy for their, uh, support of this event, and, uh, as we know and as we'll be talking about have really been the leaders in creating the, the technology that we've been using for, uh, this concept of telementoring. We wanna thank the American Medical Foundation and their support for this as well, uh, and, uh, we wanna let you know that we have, uh, 49 countries joining us today. Um, we have, uh, well over 200 hospitals, uh, watching us, and we really don't know how many actual people are watching, but we know that, uh, uh, we have 200/200 hospitals signed up. This event will be recorded and will be placed up on the Globalcast MD website for viewing at any time. That usually takes about 48 hours until it's up on the website. This is supposed to be interactive uh we are gonna have some brief uh commentaries and lectures by the experts but then we really encourage the audience to get into it, to give your opinion, to ask questions, give comments tell about your experience. This is what makes the event uh more exciting. We have the opportunity for polling and so if anyone in the audience wants to poll the audience the rest of the audience or pull the faculty. Write it in the chat and we'll try to put a poll out there and actually I'll say that to the uh faculty as well if any of you have an idea for a question you wanna ask um we should do that in fact if we don't already have a poll we should ask uh has anyone in the audience ever performed tele mentoring? I wanna know if anyone here has been involved either as a mentor or a mentee in tele mentoring. Let's put a poll up there. So, uh, with, uh, out, uh, further delay, uh, we want to move right into the event and I wanna introduce our faculty today. So, um, our first is Doctor Knut Augustad, who is from Oslo, Norway. Uh, Knut is at the Oslo University Hospital and has really been an instrumental leader. Uh, and wrote one of the original papers on telementoring and, uh, has a lot of his work that he does not only as a general surgeon, but, uh, as an educator is through telementoring. Uh, so, can you, thank you for, uh, joining us today. Thank you, Todd. It's a pleasure. I also wanna introduce, uh, Doctor Brian Duncan. Doctor Brian Duncan was the past president of SAGES and, uh, really, Catapulted telementoring to the, to the mainstream by uh through ages, putting it as a top priority. Uh, Brian has sort of felt that this is something that the world needs to know about, and during his term as president, uh, made this a priority and really has made monumental advances in telementoring in the, in the one past year. Doctor Duncan is the professor of clinical surgery at the Weill Cornell Medical College. He's also the John and Carolyn Bookout Chair in Surgical Innovation and Technology and head of section of Endoscopic Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital. Uh, he's got a, uh, he's also the, uh, which probably takes up a big chunk of his time, is he's the medical director of Mighty, which is the Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation and Education. And for any of you who have never been there, it's definitely a place you have to visit. Mighty is probably the largest surgical training center, probably in the world, uh, definitely the biggest I've ever seen. And, uh, that's all because of Brian and he's taking the lead on that. So, Brian, thank you for joining us. Thank you, Todd. It's really a pleasure to be here. I'm looking forward to the show. Yeah, I hope it'll be fun with your uh commentaries. And then, uh, next is Doctor Steven Rothenberg. Uh, Doctor Rothenberg, uh, is a, uh, a leader in pediatric surgery. Specifically, he's been one of the pioneers of pediatric minimally invasive surgery. Uh, and he, uh, has really, uh, been a pioneer in telementoring. He's been doing this for many years, uh, well over 10 years, uh, using multiple different technologies, uh, and he's the one who introduced me to it. And, uh, Doctor Rothenberg is chief of pediatric Surgery at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver, Colorado. He's also a professor of surgery at Columbia University in New York. Uh, he's past president of the IPEG, uh, which is the International Pediatric Endosurgical Group, uh, and is very involved in telementoring on mul in multiple societies. Uh, and really is a, a great person to be using this technology because as, as though he's one of the busier surgeons in, uh, in his area, he's also travels the world, uh, and so now maybe with tele mentoring, he might be able to stay home a little more often. So Steve, thanks for joining us. Oh, thanks for having me, Todd. Um, I think it's a, a great topic and a great opportunity, and, uh, most of the people in my life would appreciate it if I stayed home more. Especially the wife. So, uh, why don't we get into it. Let me, before we start, I want to give a warning that I usually give to the audience. Uh, this is all based on the, the mercy of technology, and, uh, there's a lot of things that, that can happen, so, uh, I will tell you that the, the most common fix if things aren't working well is to restart your browser. Uh, that's usually the quick fix for most things. Uh, if you can't get back on, just remember this whole thing's recorded, um. We also have a backup system so sometimes if things fail you we will notify you through this site and through your email of a backup generator site that you can go to to watch the events in case of an emergency, uh, so, uh, that will happen if things uh go go wrong.
