Commentary- Adolescent Inguinal Hernias: Too Late for Evidence-based Practice?
Abstract
We commend Dr. Ochoa and colleagues on a well-designed and executed survey-based study of current hernia repair practices in pediatric surgery presented in their article “A Survey of Current Approaches to Inguinal Hernia Repair by Pediatric General Surgeons in the United States”. This study surveyed 207 pediatric surgeons at 21 institutions about their practices for inguinal hernia repair particularly focusing on laparoscopic versus open repair as well as approaches and use of mesh in the adolescent population.
