Reliance on total parenteral Nutrition, TPN, and traveling abroad. An Ernica animation for patients and families. Are you a patient or family member of a child with intestinal failure who is reliant on total parenteral nutrition, also known as TPN? Ernike recognizes that children reliant on TPN as a method of feeding and their families may face challenges when traveling abroad. Medication and appropriate medical supplies must accompany the child on their travels. Parents and families may also have concerns about not having access to specialist emergency care for their child whilst abroad, if this is needed. Ernica has developed an online map tool so that you can easily identify specialist centers across Europe that are able to administer TPN and that meet a particular criterion. This tool can be accessed from the publicly available Ernica website. You can search for specialist centers per country and access more detailed information on each center. On the Ernica website, you can also find a holiday checklist document, which you can download and use. Additionally, templates are available for local healthcare providers to provide a written record of the child's medical history and any clinical precautions. These can accompany you on your trip abroad in case emergency care is required. These resources may help you to prepare for a trip abroad. Please visit the Ernica website for more information.
