Minimally Invasive Pediatric Surgery: The Learning Curve

Systematic review of learning curves in pediatric minimally invasive surgery across 11 procedures shows significant impact on patient outcomes during skill acquisition. Early-phase cases had higher complication rates, including mucosal perforation in pyloromyotomy (5-7%), anastomotic leakage in esophageal atresia repair (15%), and increased transplant rates after Kasai portoenterostomy (26-35%).
