Physician Wellness: 2018 Pediatric Surgery Practice Gap #6

Join us as we continue our review of the top 10 practice gaps of 2018, first presented at last year's update course by APSA's Practice Development Committee. Number six, right. So, number six has been a hot topic. It's uh in surgery as a whole, physician wellness. So, reviewing, they found burnout directly impacts patient care and establishing support systems should be a focus throughout education and practice. There is somebody that had a bad complication, uh resources get mobilized so that one one of the leaders goes to that person, not to say, you know, hey, what the heck did you do here? But to say, how are you? And we proactively go to them and it needs to be a proactive system because people, there's a lot of stigma around this. So, I actually have to say, I loved that they presented this. Um, this is a topic we don't address enough. Burnout's a definite real issue. I love that they talked about it. I love some of the comments that were made that we have that police officers have training for traumatic experiences, but pediatric surgeons don't. I thought that was a great topic. I completely agree.
