Topic overview

Pilonidal disease (PD) is an infectious and inflammatory condition most often seen in adolescents and young adults. Management of PD can vary, but most cases involve some degree of wound care prior to disease resolution. The wound care literature with respect to healthy adolescents in an outpatient setting is relatively lacking [1]. At our institution, PD patients are managed in our specialized pediatric PD clinic, which has benefitted from the expertise of a part-time wound care specialist for the last ten years.
