Health outcomes and the healthcare and societal cost of optimizing pediatric surgical care in the United States

Study of 8,006 complex pediatric surgical cases across six states found no significant cost differences between current care patterns and theoretical optimization where all cases are performed at Level I centers. Level II centers showed higher 30-day readmission rates compared to Level I facilities.
