The conus medullaris ratio: A new way to identify tethered cord on MRI

Novel MRI measurement technique uses anatomic landmarks (foramen magnum, conus tip, iliac crest) to identify tethered cord, avoiding challenges of vertebral counting in patients with spinal anomalies. Study of 340 patients showed the conus medullaris ratio reliably discriminates normal from low-lying conus with 75% accuracy.
