Neurodevelopmental impairment following surgical necrotizing enterocolitis with gestational age ≥ 28 weeks: who is at risk?

This retrospective study identifies key risk factors for permanent neurodevelopmental impairment in neonates ≥28 weeks gestational age who undergo surgery for necrotizing enterocolitis. Significant predictors include gestational age ≤32 weeks, mechanical ventilation, postoperative acute kidney injury, elevated CRP on day 3, and delayed time to surgery.
