Chest drains after open paediatric lung resections: not always required

This retrospective study challenges routine chest drain placement after open lung resection in children, demonstrating that selective omission is safe and associated with shorter hospital stays. Among 35 pediatric patients, those without chest drains had significantly reduced length of stay (2.5 vs 5.0 days) with no increase in complications or reintervention rates.
