Long-term outcome for children undergoing open hepatico-jejunostomy for choledochal malformations: a 43-year single-center experience

This 43-year retrospective study of 113 pediatric patients demonstrates that open excision of choledochal malformations with Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy achieves excellent long-term outcomes, with only 8.9% experiencing major late complications and no biliary malignancies detected. Adult quality of life was comparable to controls, though the authors emphasize need for lifelong surveillance protocols given delayed complication risk.
