My coauthors and I appreciate the comments of Alfred Babich regarding our approach to an Artificial Placenta (AP). The care of extremely premature newborns is very complex, and we believe an Artificial Placenta utilizing extracorporeal life support (ECLS) will become a paradigm shift in this field. We would like to address Mr. Babich's comments regarding this promising technology.
