Fractured pediatric central venous catheters — Repair or replace?

Retrospective study of 236 pediatric patients found 29% CVC fracture rate, most common with double-lumen catheters and TPN use. While replacement offers longer durability (182 vs 99 days), repair shows equivalent infection rates and avoids operative risks, making it a viable first-line option for fractured pediatric central lines.
