Variceal Bleeds in Patients with Biliary Atresia

Retrospective study of 74 biliary atresia patients found 24% developed variceal bleeding, typically before age 1 year and often while listed for transplantation. Failure to clear jaundice predicted earlier bleeding. No bleeding-related mortality occurred with endoscopic or medical management.
