Peripherally inserted central catheters can be an alternative to tunneled central venous catheters in chemotherapy for hematological and oncological pediatric patients

Published: Reading: 1 min

Topic overview

This retrospective study of 133 catheters demonstrates that PICCs offer a viable alternative to tunneled central venous catheters for pediatric chemotherapy, with comparable complication rates and the advantage of avoiding general anesthesia. PICCs showed shorter time to insertion and successfully supported complete chemotherapy courses despite shorter median indwelling times.
