Surgical Implications for Diagnosis and Treatment of Intestinal Aspergillosis in Pediatric Patients with ALL

Intestinal aspergillosis is a rare but life-threatening complication in immunocompromised children with ALL, occurring in 5 of 2,307 patients in this German cohort study. Early surgical exploration with biopsy and resection of necrotic tissue is critical for diagnosis and treatment, though outcomes remain poor despite aggressive intervention and antifungal therapy.
