Low Titer Group O Whole Blood In Injured Children Requiring Massive Transfusion

Prospective study of 80 injured children requiring massive transfusion shows that low-titer group O whole blood (LTOWB) significantly improves 72-hour and 28-day survival compared to conventional component therapy, with reduced hospital and ICU length of stay. After adjusting for injury severity and physiologic parameters, LTOWB recipients had 77% lower odds of 72-hour mortality and 59% lower odds of 28-day mortality.
