Multi-disciplinary care in patients with complex pediatric general and thoracic surgical pathology: lessons learned from a 20-year experience

This 20-year retrospective study demonstrates that coordinated multidisciplinary management of complex pediatric thoracic and abdominal tumors achieves zero operative mortality. Pre-operative team planning and availability of cardiopulmonary bypass (used in 31% of cases) are critical success factors for safe resection of mediastinal teratomas, advanced Wilms tumors, and other complex pathology.
