Metabolic and bariatric surgery versus intensive non-surgical treatment for adolescents with severe obesity (AMOS2): a multicentre, randomised, controlled trial in Sweden

This Swedish RCT compared metabolic/bariatric surgery (primarily gastric bypass) to intensive non-surgical treatment in 50 adolescents aged 13-16 with severe obesity. At 2 years, the surgery group achieved a mean BMI reduction of 12.6 kg/m² versus 0.2 kg/m² in the non-surgical group, with mild adverse events and 20% crossover from conservative to surgical treatment.
