Predictive factors of bowel resection for midgut volvulus based on an analysis of bi-center experiences in southern Japan

This bi-center study of 48 patients identified key predictors for bowel resection in midgut volvulus: low birth weight, intestinal torsion >540°, and time to diagnosis >12 hours. Ultrasonography showing whirlpool sign was the most sensitive imaging modality, and patients with bloody stool require urgent surgical intervention.
