Primary anastomosis is the preferred surgical approach for proximal intestinal atresia: a retrospective 20-year analysis

This 20-year retrospective study of 62 neonates with intestinal atresia found that primary anastomosis achieved comparable outcomes to enterostomy but with shorter hospital stays and fewer reoperations. Surgeons preferred primary anastomosis for proximal atresia cases, while enterostomy remained appropriate for smaller infants with lower Apgar scores.
