Outcomes after transanal proctectomy with ileal pouch–anal anastomosis in adolescents
Topic overview
This retrospective study of 16 adolescent patients demonstrates that transanal ileal pouch-anal anastomosis is a safe and feasible surgical approach for ulcerative colitis and familial adenomatous polyposis, with no anastomotic leakage and acceptable functional outcomes. Patients achieved median bowel movements of 4-5 times daily with minimal complications.
