Comparative analysis of ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy in the treatment of childhood proximal ureteral stones

This comparative study of 155 pediatric patients demonstrates that extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) offers advantages over ureteroscopy for proximal ureteral stones, with shorter procedure times, lower costs, and fewer complications. However, ESWL success decreases with larger stone volume and higher density, suggesting patient selection is critical for optimal outcomes.
