Does Timing of Resection Influence the Presence of Inflammation Within Congenital Lung Malformations?

Retrospective study of 102 congenital lung malformation resections found that specimens resected after 10 months of age showed double the rate of histological inflammation (71% vs 35%) compared to earlier resection. Delaying surgery correlated with increased lower respiratory tract infections requiring antibiotics, suggesting earlier resection may benefit asymptomatic lesions.
