Multicenter study of 40,611 pediatric surgical patients found no correlation between postoperative antibiotic prophylaxis continuation and surgical site infection rates across 93 hospitals. Despite 42% of patients receiving postoperative prophylaxis with 190-fold variation between institutions, SSI rates remained unaffected when adjusted for procedure type and patient characteristics.
