Meta-analysis of 10,019 pediatric appendectomy cases demonstrates that trainee surgeons achieve equivalent perioperative outcomes to trained surgeons across all measured complications, operation times, and reoperation rates. Trainees actually showed lower conversion rates to open surgery, supporting appendectomy as a safe benchmark procedure for surgical training without compromising patient safety.
