Role of urinary Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL), Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1(MCP-1), and Interleukin-6(IL-6) as biomarkers in pediatric patients with hydronephrosis

Study of 24 pediatric hydronephrosis patients demonstrates that urinary NGAL, MCP-1, and IL-6 levels can differentiate obstructive cases requiring pyeloplasty from non-obstructive dilation, potentially reducing need for repeated imaging. Post-operative IL-6 decline suggests these biomarkers may also monitor surgical effectiveness.
