This article challenges the routine practice of prophylactic appendectomy during Ladd procedures for intestinal malrotation. Emerging evidence suggests the appendix plays important immunological roles in gastrointestinal health and GALT function, with recent data linking appendectomy to increased lifetime sepsis risk in children.
