Long-term follow-up of biliary atresia using liver transient elastography
Topic overview
Prospective study of 37 biliary atresia patients post-Kasai operation demonstrates that FibroScan liver stiffness measurements correlate with biochemical fibrosis markers and portal hypertensive complications during long-term follow-up. Elevated fibrosis scores (≥6.8 kPa) predict need for variceal screening in this population.
