Factors influencing the development of Multicystic Dysplastic Kidney (MCDK) following urinary tract obstruction in the fetal lamb

Fetal urinary obstruction during kidney development leads to multicystic dysplastic kidney through disrupted PAX2 down-regulation in nephrogenic zone cells. This lamb model demonstrates that cyst formation results from abnormal persistence of developmental markers (PAX2 and CD10) in epithelial cells that should have matured normally.
