Gastrostomies in children requiring long-term ventilation

Retrospective study of 41 pediatric long-term ventilation patients shows 73% required gastrostomy feeding, with most insertions occurring post-tracheostomy. Findings suggest concurrent gastrostomy placement should be considered at time of tracheostomy formation to avoid subsequent procedures and prolonged nasogastric feeding.
