Central Venous Catheter Salvage in Ambulatory Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections

Multi-center study of 460 pediatric ambulatory CLABSIs demonstrates that central venous catheter salvage was attempted in 82% of cases and successful in 76% of attempts. Underlying diagnosis, catheter type, number of lumens, and absence of candidemia were key factors predicting successful salvage, offering evidence-based guidance for clinicians balancing infection control with procedural burden.
