Correlation of anorectal malformation complexity and associated urologic abnormalities

Large retrospective study of 712 ARM patients demonstrates that urologic anomalies occur in 56-65% of cases and increase significantly with malformation complexity, particularly hydronephrosis and VUR in males with bladder neck fistulae and females with long common channel cloacas. Findings emphasize the need for protocolized urologic screening and early pediatric urology consultation in ARM management.
