This retrospective study validates a symptom-based algorithm for managing pediatric button battery ingestions, demonstrating that conservative observation is safe for batteries beyond the gastroesophageal junction in asymptomatic patients. The protocol emphasizes immediate endoscopic removal only for esophageal batteries while avoiding unnecessary admissions and serial imaging for gastric and intestinal batteries.
