The Role of Ultrasound in Detecting Renal Tract Abnormalities Following a Single Episode of Epididymitis

Retrospective study of 84 boys with first-episode epididymitis found that routine follow-up ultrasound detected renal abnormalities in only 2 cases (4%), questioning the clinical utility of imaging after a single uncomplicated episode. Most cases were diagnosed at scrotal exploration with low rates of positive urine cultures.
