Topic overview

Health care cost in the United States (US) is increasing exponentially, and healthcare providers are searching ways to provide high-quality care in a cost-efficient manner. Comparative effectiveness research aims to determine health care delivery strategies to inform practice and reduce unnecessary practice variation. Prior studies have identified priority topics for comparative effectiveness research in hospital pediatrics and general surgery, but they have not focused on ambulatory or same-day surgery [1,2].
