Massive Transfusion in Pediatric Trauma – Does More Blood Predict Mortality?

This TQIP database study of 633 pediatric trauma patients receiving massive transfusion found no upper blood volume threshold predictive of mortality. Severely injured children can tolerate large transfusion volumes with 78% survival, suggesting resuscitation should not be limited by arbitrary volume cutoffs.
