Are routine postoperative dilations necessary after primary posterior sagittal anorectoplasty? A randomized controlled trial

This randomized controlled trial of 49 ARM patients found no significant difference in stricture rates between routine postoperative dilation (21%) versus non-dilation (32%) groups following PSARP. The study challenges four decades of standard practice, suggesting dilations may be unnecessary and that Heineke-Mikulicz anoplasty provides adequate management for strictures when they occur.
