Randomized Trial of Fetal Surgery for Severe Left Diaphragmatic Hernia
Topic overview
Randomized trial demonstrates that fetoscopic endoluminal tracheal occlusion (FETO) at 27-29 weeks gestation significantly improves survival to discharge in severe left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia (40% vs 15%, p=0.009). While FETO increases risks of preterm rupture of membranes and preterm birth, the survival benefit persists to 6 months of age.
