Long-Term Outcome of Children with Short Bowel Syndrome Treated with a Modification of the STEP Technique Avoiding Mesenteric Defect
Topic overview
Modified STEP technique (MSTEP) without mesenteric defects achieved 45% enteral autonomy in 16 pediatric short bowel syndrome patients over median 5.8-year follow-up. The modification allows duodenal application and showed particular success in patients preserving >50% colon. Study demonstrates comparable outcomes to standard STEP registry while potentially reducing mesenteric complications.
