New York pediatric Level 1 trauma center saw 48% fewer trauma activations during COVID-19 peak (March-May 2020) compared to prior years, with no pedestrian-automobile injuries but higher injury severity and operating room utilization among presenting patients. Findings suggest pandemic-related trauma volume reductions may allow strategic reallocation of hospital resources during public health emergencies.
