Blood group AB is associated with poor outcomes in infants with necrotizing enterocolitis
Topic overview
Retrospective study of 237 preterm infants with NEC found that blood group AB is independently associated with significantly worse outcomes, including 7-12 times higher odds of severe disease, surgical need, and mortality. Fetal-maternal blood group incompatibility did not contribute to adverse outcomes when adjusted for gestational age.
