The impact of patient age and procedure type on postoperative opioid use following ambulatory pediatric urologic procedures

This retrospective study of 805 pediatric patients found that opioid use duration after outpatient urologic procedures increases with patient age, with adolescents using opioids 85% longer than younger children. Procedure type significantly impacts duration, with hypospadias repair and penile reconstruction associated with over twice the opioid use compared to inguinal procedures.
