A retrospective review of gastroschisis epidemiology and referral patterns in northern Ghana

Retrospective study of 360 neonatal surgical admissions in northern Ghana reveals only 6% of expected gastroschisis cases reached tertiary care, with patients traveling 4 hours on average and all deaths occurring within the first week. Findings highlight critical gaps in referral systems and neonatal transport infrastructure for congenital surgical emergencies in low-resource settings.
